Lorraine has kindly opened this up so we can post some ideas for making gifts and things from recycled stuff, in this age of straightened finances.

If you have any ideas, please open a new thread so that we can all share.

Thanks.

Lynda

I will keep my eyes open for some ideas, i aready salvage anything that others throw away.

yesterday i salvaged a 'whey powder' tub. I had washed it out and hubby asked what i was going to use it for, i looked around for an excuse...i mean unmissable opportunity lol and spotted 3 used batteries on the sill, so i just turned and blagged my way throught the suggestion that i use it to make a 'used battery collection station' cor he was impressed... Twisted Evil

so, i have talked myself into usiing my Cricut machine to make a label and decoration for it...lol

Good idea - perhaps we could have one of Lorraine's
challenges ?

An online friend of mine showed me this site the other week... How to make your own padded envelopes. She made some from some glossy magazines she had lurking around.

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=264781.0 (hope its ok to pop the link in)

I thought it a great way of using up left over christmas or birthday wrapping paper. Maybe you could use it to make your padded envelopes for the next christmas or birthday gifts.

I am looking for one to make boxes to put my made jewellery items in, and gift boxes, so if i find any i will let you know.

Lmao, Sue, that sounds soooo much like me pmsl!

Hubby chucks anything and everything away, but i like to keep useful tubs/boxes etc to use for other things. In fact i was in the same situation the other week, he bunged something in the bin that i had in mind to make/reuse and he said 'Its rubbish, what do you want it for?' So i instantaneously thought up what i was going to use it for and he said 'Oh, Ok' hehehe.

I hate to throw away things that can be re-used.

At Christmas I used several boxes I had covered to put new
pressies in. When I did a car boot last summer, I covered several
tubs and put chipboard shapes/letters in them to sell. I recycle many
things including old cards that I recycle into postcards for my comping.

My pill packet pocket would fit in here very well.

I made sewing pin/needle holder out of oxo boxes. Just cover them in nice patterned paper .... stuff em full of stuffing - could be shredded material. Cover the bump at the top with fabric and stick pins in - voila !

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date  Laughing

You're right, Jo - the pill packet would be just right here. Also, Cal, your pincushion - and that might prompt people to suggest other containers that could be used. Have seen them made from allsorts.

Thanks, girls - and keep 'em coming!

Lynda
