Flourish/swirl die
The Memory Box flourish die is absolutely beautiful, but it's a b****r to cut (shim, put it through umpteen times, still some bits need cutting out): being such fine tendrils it's not absolutely necessary to use every time you need a flourish.
What flourish dies has everyone got, and what do they think of them? To use in the Cuttlebug.

Not got one but I was thinking of getting this one. I have read that if you use wax paper then your card the intrecut shapes are easier to remove from the dies and they too can be used on projects.

Re: Flourish/swirl die
Have you tried rotating it through 90 degrees then passing it through the machine again? Scatty and I saw that at a show, and it worked much better than keep on passing it through the same way. The demo we saw was for a very intricate sort of doily.

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date
Re: Flourish/swirl die
Will have a look and get a pic, I know what you mean, I had a rotten job setting up a fine die I had for my Christmas cards, I tried all thicknesses of extra paper/card to get it to work and did in the end, but it's annoying isn't it. Once I found the perfect size piece of paper for the shim I put it in with the die for future use.

I've not got one either but did see what Tina suggests on the tele the other day and it seemed to work ok.

Re: Flourish/swirl die
Jeez, can't remember which I've got. I'll have to check but the rotation does help and also, put the die over towards an edge of the bug, there's more pressure there.

Re: Flourish/swirl die
Yes: have tried turning it before it goes through a second time, and doing it at the edge rather than the middle: mostly means I get it to cut cleanly - although a few times I still had to 'help' it with my craft knife - but it still means three goes. First go cuts all the outside areas, then the other two have to concentrate on the centre bit that doesn't want to cut.
This is the one I've got: would like something similar but with thicker branches, IYKWIM. It's about 3" across and about 2.5" high: would be happy with something about the same width across, doesn't have to be quite so high (or with so many curlicues). This one is very pretty, but a bit delicate for things like men's cards.

Re: Flourish/swirl die
Try putting the shim only under the piece that doesn't cut well, when you put the shim under the whole die then you lift the whole die and not the part that isnt cutting. I hope i'm making sence, a little bit under the middle and see if that helps.

Re: Flourish/swirl die
Hmmmm, a bit puzzled here as I never have problems with M.B. dies.

Re: Flourish/swirl die
I tried that too, Alison: only problem was that it was the middle bit that wasn't cutting (in amongst the largest lot of swirls) and not only didn't it help but it stopped the outer bits cutting properly too! Think I will just have to accept I have to run it through 3 times - but I would like to get a 'thicker' flourish as I said so would be interested to see what other people have got.
