Flying Geese and Cherries
My very first attempt at patchwork/quilting so went for the Flying Geese. This first bit is 3 x 6. I absolutely loved doing this...think I may be hooked, lol.
I also embroidered the cherries on my sewing machine so am going to try and make something to incorporate them. The cherry fabric is what I made Mia's dress with, so I might make her a cushion cover or something for her bed. The cherries aren't upside down, they're random. It also looks a tad thin (can see the seam allowances) but maybe won't be so bad when it's backed.

Re: Flying Geese and Cherries
Brilliant! I found the swap from dressmaking to patchwork quite hard, you can 'ease' clothes seams, and in quilting there's no room for error. Yours look spot on.

Re: Flying Geese and Cherries
Here's the design I'm going to use. Really simple seeing as it's my first time at this. (ignore the grid, it's accurate at full size and all edges are on the grid lines).
Next time I want to embroider, I will know to cut the fabric first. As using these cherries was an afterthought, I had to make that centre piece up to 6 inches. Unpicked the first attempt, lol. It wasn't square at all! Didn't realise that a rotary cutter wasn't that easy to use either, pmsl. I went skewiff half a dozen times away from the ruler edge.
I've got my centre pieces put together now and the next step is getting the text embroidery EXACTLY where I want it on the 3 inch strips of white. Another learning curve coming up as I've not done text on the machine yet.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product, Lorraine! You'll soon get the hang of the rotary cutter, and good luck with the text.

Re: Flying Geese and Cherries
Well, I've got the top all put together, including the embroidery which took me hours yesterday to practice and get right, so was able to do the 'real' stuff today.
Tomorrow, I'll practice stitching in the ditch and maybe some free motion quilting. I'll definitely stitch in the ditch on it but not sure about the free motion yet. It might be a bit adventurous for my first project, lol.
