Well, it's only early but so far, so good today.

Had a good day yesterday. He didn't bite me hard, just a couple of attempts. Sprayed his collar once or twice which stopped him in his tracks. Had a lovely cuddle this morning too.

Please, please, please let this be the turning point!

good. I found with Bracken mental stimulation such as being out and about and seeing cars, people etc wore her out much more than walking miles.

glad its going better anyway.

The walks have got to be good for both of you, it's hard to go back to the exercise after having an old dog who hasn't the energy or inclination and easy to forget how much a pup, and/or a large dog needs its exercise.
Hoping it's all still good.

SAXON - Page 6 Empty Re: SAXON

Post by Lorraine on Thu 14 Aug 2014 - 10:39

Well, he's 15 weeks today and it's like I've got a different dog. There's a remarkable improvement in his behaviour. Don't get me wrong, he still has his moments, as is normal, but other than that, he's doing brilliantly.

I took him down the field yesterday for my 2 hour sitter session and did some long line (thanks so much Tina) training. We did sit, stay, come and heel and he was excellent. I was really proud of him.

He plays with me without biting now, lets me cuddle him and does as he's told quite a lot of the time. Mum isn't quite as scared now and will let him approach her without screeching.

I was on the loo this morning and he started barking like crazy at the front door. When I got there, there was indeed somebody there. It's the first time he's done this and I was well pleased with him.

I have been warned that he could change back for a while in a couple of weeks time when he hits adolescence, but if he does, hopefully I'll have a handle on it.

He's weighing in at a bit over 40lbs now, so he's growing well and looking terrific.

SAXON - Page 6 Empty Re: SAXON

Post by gingerjo on Sun 24 Aug 2014 - 0:58

I came to see how you were getting on, glad there is a little improvement. If Maya hasn't had enough exercise be it mental or physical, she starts getting into mischief. Did it last night, kept picking paper out of the bin and eating it, right bugger she was, lol. He will need walks, but like you said his bones aren't strong yet so don't go for too long. Lots of mental stimulation needed too. Maya likes toilet/kitchen rolls with a couple of treats in, squash the ends in and makes a great treat toy. it will make a mess when they try to get the treat out, but great fun. Plastic bottles are another favourite, kick them about, great fun. I wanted to send Maya back when she was like that Lorraine, she changed so hopefully Saxon will.

I won't make it over before I get back to work, but after 23rd will be free, so hopefully bring Maya to play. I am dog sitting for the dreaded Toby this week. Maya is so patient with him but he is a right pain! Ni social skills at all and is just rude.
