I've done it before, where you die-cut something out of a piece of card that you're subsequently going to use as a mount and therefore cover with another layer, hiding the bit you've robbed.

But yesterday, using two recycled card blanks, I was desperate to have the matching cardstock for a die-cut on the top - so I did the die-cut out of the front of the card blank itself. No-one will ever know, if I put a thick enough insert in it!
