ink pad suggestions
I've a few nice stamps now and love the way a stamped image can really add to projects.
I have 2 brilliance ink pads in black and white, and 3 chalk ink pads.
I like the pigment pads best as they, are versatile for me whether I emboss or not.
I'm looking for some other colours and shades of stamps and would prefer acid free, can you recommend brands that are good and reasonably priced? I like brilliance but would like to know of more for colour range.
Also any shop recommendations? Thankyou.
I already made a mistake and bought some ink pads which were cheap and don't work well

Re: ink pad suggestions
i have so many different brands of ink that it would take ages to list them , but as thrifty says , avoid whispers and ink it up too are rubbish .
if you are after building up the ink pads you currently have id have to say collect the cats eyes and teardrop shapes , they are small , full of ink , come in chalks and pigment inks and have a fab range of colours . also the coloorbox pads that have about 6 inks in , that all work together ( colour wise ) they are great value for money , but they are a bit big . the queues are brilliant as well , they are the cats eyes shape with 6 different colours that go together , and cost about £6 or so for a set , these also come in chalk and pigment ink.
there are some hybrid ink pads too , i love these but cannot remember what they are called now .
then of course the versafine , i love these , and the stazon , i cannot do without them , distress inks are great too .
adirondack are fab , lovely colours , also available in pens .
impress are good inkpads too , but i dont think they have much choice in colours
palette are the hybrid pads , very muted , vintagey colours
i bet you wish you had never asked now

Re: ink pad suggestions
Versacolour and Versamagic are superb inkpads. Pastels and brights and some with a lovely chalky finish.
Archival are dye inks, but absolutely superb to stamp with and give a crisp clear image. In fact, I now favour them over Stazon. The difference is that Stazon are solvent based and Archival are oil based.
Craft Creations have good prices on the Archival and also stock the Versa ones.
If you do want a dye pad, and I would seriously recommend having some, Impress are also excellent and come in a large colour range.
Posted same time as Kim, lol. Kim, if you think Impress don't come in a lot of colours, go to Craft Creations and look at the 'fast drying - single colour'.

Re: ink pad suggestions
I have impress in very few colours, its my main black, stazon in very random colours & then the tim holtz distress ink pads. I do have the clear versamark pad but hardly EVER use it.
Do like impress stamps, reasonable price and I think their decent.
However I do use my distress inks a lot for loads of different things, so their worth investing in.
I will never make the mistake of buying ink-it-up pads again, no wonder why hobbycraft is ALWAYS selling them dirt cheap
Keep looking at those inkpads that have the same colour but in different shades, Cynthia (mistyrat) showed me some really nice techniques with them

Ah thanks for this it was the ink it up ones I bought and found out they weren't good, and didn't know about whispers so will avoid them.
I'm going to that site now and look out their range. I'm glad I asked as there's so many names/types and some not cheap but a waste if they turn out rubbish.

Re: ink pad suggestions
Like Kim, would recommend the Cats Eyes by Colorbox: apart from being able to collect a range of colours more cheaply, they are much easier for doing things like edging your card than a full-size pad.
Black Stazon or another permanent ink if you want to colour images after stamping.
The black Brilliance you have is a good all-rounder, always reliable. But if you have stamps with tiny writing or complicated shapes, the Versafine black will be better.
Versamark for embossing: it means you don't have to have a pad in the same colour as your EP and you can do other things like watermark stamping and resist.
Like everyone else says, avoid the cheap pads!
The only other thing I would say is that buying pads is much like buying stamps: you keep seeing ones you would love and then buy too many! Think of what you are going to use them for: for example, if you're into vintage, you'll need browns, tans, autumn shades to give that aged look. And be careful of tones: like paper colours, there's lots of different tones of the same colour (I find it's difficult to get a true blue - not purply, turquoisy; or pink - not peachy; and absolutely impossible to get a brown that isn't reddish).
Oh, and don't get hooked by "specialist" pads till you're sure about them - my friend spent ages trying to get the Castaway pad (supposed to give the same effect as using bleach) and bought me one too: neither of us is impressed and I shoved mine in a drawer! And I bought a glue pad, only to find out that you have to use the heat gun to bring it to stickiness, when another sort is sticky immediately you stamp it.
Have fun shopping, Gillian!
