Album Covers Empty Album Covers

Post by kt_dragonfly Sun 22 Feb 2009 - 22:23

So for this years CJ I used a sarabook ready made album, though 2007 CJ I actually cut the cover from a very stiff cardboard.

I'm pretty sure some of you also make/cut your own covers but what material do you use?

The cardboard I originally use I would never touch again, i think it was a random cardboard box.

Is it chipboard? If so where do you get it from?

Only asking because it would be nice to make my own sized albums rather than rely on the likes of 7gypsies/sarabooks, who claim the books are the size you want but then they turn out not be!

Edited to add: Then again if I ever get a bind it all, they have them all ready made dont they lol!

I use the chipboard that is sandwiched with papers and stuff as stiffening/ packaging. I have bought chipboard by the sheet in the past, but can't remember where from at the minute.

Yes, BIA make covers already cut; but the thicker chipboard ones only fit the new pink machine, not the original blue one (I found out the hard way last week!).

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date  Laughing

I use recycled board too. The grey stuff that backs 12 x 12 envi's and smaller ones. All sorts of stuff as long as it's flat and not the corrugated stuff.

I've also doubled up cereal box card. Mr Green Once it's covered with paper, it's absolutely fine and stiff enough.

Very rare I use thick chipboard for covers, unless it's a BIA book.

I'm the same I use the cardboard from Scrapbook products packaging. I'd love a bind it all.

I'm lucky, because a friend of mine gives me cardboard from her friend's husband. He's a photographer and the card is cream, not too thick, but very sturdy. I think it comes to stiffen the pages for the wedding albums and similar. Come to think of it, next time we have a craft weekend I'll try and bring some, because I think my friend has loads of it.

I use mount board too, our art shop does framing and sells bags of offcuts for 50p so I use them.
