Post by Guest Wed 11 Jan 2012 - 17:10

Hi I'm Barbara, I am married and have two teenage daughters and live in Manchester. I work in a local school as a special needs TA. I have offered to make 1920s wedding invites for a friend we have agreed on a style but I am not sure what to put on the place cards any ideas?

Nice to meet you Barbara, there are several TA's on here, self included.
Lorraine might well here as she's a fan of the era.

Hi, Barbara - nice to meet you!

I think a few people on here have done wedding stationery: Kim and Karin spring to mind. Also Emma makes it as a living, I think. I'm sure one of them will give you some ideas about the place cards: difficult, I imagine, as they're pretty small so you can only put a tiny motif on.

Hi Barbara and welcome!

Not sure what sort of image you have agreed on, but how about Rennie Mackintosh? There are a few rubber stamps out there with those (or similar style) images, which would fit quite nicely on place cards.

I have only made invitations for three weddings; two paid and one my own, but happy to help if I can.

Hi Barbara, welcome to the forum, its a great place and loads of stuff to see and do.

I to am a TA, though with foundation children and only on a supply basis.

I recently did two lots of wedding stationary, one was very frilly and fancy with scalloped edges and butterflies and the other very plain with heart corner punch and ribbon to tie gatefold invites together. Save the dates, table cards were just A7 black background with white overlay (slightly smaller) with corners cut, then the groom hand wrote each name on them. Very effective as i had also done table numbers using same idea though larger, and an embossed with hearts number in the middle.

I've got pics somewhere I'll try dig em out.

Welcome Barbara, although we have been chatting through PM.
(Barbara is having some of my Sizzix dies)

As I said, I hope you'll stick around - they are a great bunch of folks
here and we have some fun.

Hello Barbara.

Good luck with your invites/placecards. If you're printing them, search out a font that fits that period. There are lots out there and it will make them all the more authentic.

Hello Empty Thanks for a warm welcome

Post by Guest Thu 12 Jan 2012 - 20:05

Hi
Thanks everyone for a lovely warm welcome and ideas.
I need to purchase a box of card but the Paper Mill Shop has closed now at the Lowry Centre. I was hoping to go to Lierpool at the weekend does anyone know if the paper shop there is still open? or maybe you could point me in the direction of a new supplier. I hae found packs of 10 card but it works out expensive.
Cheers
Barbara

Craft Creation in Cheshunt are best for bulk stuff; the prices go down the more cards you buy, and they have a massive range as they are the manufacturer rather than a middle man. Every shape and size in pretty much every cardstock you can imagine.

Hobbycraft had some good offers on in the sale, not sure if they'll have anything left.
I get A4 card from the works (book store) they often have blanks too.

I order online 500 x 300gsm A4 card but can't remember how much it is.
I buy a big box as the kids use it a lot as well. If anyone is interested I'll find
details.
