Cannelloni
We love Italian food, especially lasagne but the other day I saw some cannelloni pasta tubes in Aldi so bought some to make the recipe on the box. Spent yesterday shopping for riccotta cheese which was difficult to find but good old M&S came to the rescue, marscapone cheese, parmesan shavings and some parmesan to grate. All the cheeses had to be mixed into the mince which looked a rather peculiar colour at the end of it. The recipe said it would take 20 mins to cook. I'd done this so Tom could have some before he went to work at 5 yesterday but he had to have some later as the pasta wasn't cooked after 40 minutes. It was very rich as there was also double cream poured over the top. And as for the taste, it was rather odd, think there was too much cheese. Filling the pasta tubes was great fun too - not!
Do any of you have a recipe you use for this, as I'd like to try again maybe.

Re: Cannelloni
I used it once, never again. Don't think it's worth all the messing about lol. If I remember right, it took ages to cook as well.
That was an expensive meal, all the different cheeses together would of put me off.
Good luck with your next attempt!

Re: Cannelloni
I did it in the Uk a few times - just made like a bolognese mix like the meat part of lassagne (i use same mix for everything) and then stuffed that in the tubes with a becahmel sauce (from a jar)over the top and parmesan on the top. it was lovely but essentially the same as lassagne, just in tubes instead of layers.

shaken and stirred but still standing (most of the time)

Re: Cannelloni
I use a bolognese sauce as well, Cath. With a cheese sauce over the top.
Mind you, when I did it, I also found the tubes took ages to cook and if there wasn't enough moisture in it, some didn't cook properly anyway.

Re: Cannelloni
I think I tried par boiling the tubes first, standing them on their ends a few at a time with a spoon of oil in the water, can't say it was so succesful I've done it since though.
