if in doubt... do a layout I think.

well, another irritating thing about having kids is having to make fancy dress costumes for them. Course, i was always ok cos Patty made all my clothes anyway.

The journalling (in case you cant read it) says how I loved the outfit and carried my eskimo doll 'ooglik' in its furs strapped to my back. Rita bought me the doll back from Canada where she had been living for 2 years and i still remember mum explaining to me that the 'red indians' carried their babies on their backs like that. Mum got that red feather off nana and I kept it for years.

you can see from the garden that Patty always had the garden looking nice and the chicken wire over the pond is because Tim kept falling in it.

Oh so many memories.... sorry about all the waffle.



I dont know how old I was, but I was at school so more than 5 and Tim was crawling so I reckon about 6... mum, any ideas on my age (or anybody else for that matter) so I can date it.

is that the actual red feather maria that you have used ..

this lo has got me dancing round the room going pat pat pat on my mouth and making whooping noises .

i love it , great fun and itf it brings back lovely memories then thats what scrapbooking is all about

Nah - i wish it was the original feather... the original was about 10 inches high and I used to keep getting told off for putting it in my mouth (not whilst I was wearing it, obviously). Have noticed that you can actually see oogliks head over my shoulder,

I suspect Steph is right... i was only 6 or so for goodness sake, and was fascinated by her having dark skin but the definite best thing was the thick fur cloak she came in.

oog- lick was a childish name I thought fitting for an eskimo. What im not sure about is why a red indian would be carrying an eskimo on their back and indeed why Rita has bought me an eskimo baby when she had been in Toronto (as opposed to lapland). Hmmm, it all made perfect sense as a child.

One of the things I like about having kids is the dressing up, you m,ight guess that. I do prefer more than a next day request though especially when it's for a flamingo outfit or 5 monkey masks. That one of the pitfalls of being 'crafty' you get asked for wierd stuff on a fairly regular basis.

Lovely layout Mia - quite right about the feather - you did keep on putting it in your mouth for some reason - and Nanny was scared youd catch some chicken-borne disease with it!!! Yes, you were about 6 I think but cannot be sure.

Awww this is lovely Maria! Brings back memories of a lovely fancy dress costume I had at about the same age, it was a chiffon dusky pink and purple 1920s flapper girl outfit complete with head band with feathers in it too!!!

Remember the costume making days myself. My two wonthe village cup one year, dressed as Fred and Wilma Flintstone, with tennis racquets made from branches during Wimbledon fortnight.

My mum dressed me up as a packet of Smiths crisps once. Huge sheets of greaseproof paper drawn and coloured up really well and the best bit was a piece of carbon paper rolled up around a scrunched piece of paper for the bag of salt that there used to be in the packets. Those were the days
