Woodford Air Show
I used to love going to this air show, now I don't know if it even still takes place. I love planes but the journalling describes the tragedy of watching a man die when his Spitfire ploughed into the ground. To this day I can still hear the noise as it hit the runway. I have only ever been to one air show since and my nerves couldn't take it, the thrill had gone and I was terrified of seeing another tragic accident but I still wanted to document my love of them plus sadness at not loving them anymore
Re: Woodford Air Show
That is a beautiful LO Ruth. You have so much on it yet it isn't crowded -
it all fits in wonderfully. What a shame that the accident put you off. I think it would
have done me as well, but you've certainly captured the atmosphere.
The stripep paper behind the top areoplane, gives the feel of speed.

That's a really poignant moment to have journalled, can't have been easy for you.
I was at Lowestoft when the Harrier went in a few years back, luckily the pilot ejected and just broke his leg when he hit the wing of his own plane as he landed in the drink. It was an awful feeling on the beach though, you're right you don't forget it.
Love the way you've used the striped paper to capture the speed and movement of the aircraft. Top scrapping.

Great LO Ruth.
Malcolm was there for that day too. I've been to a few but not as many as him & Tom. The airshow no longer takes place Ruth but they are trying to plan one for either 2011 or 2012 can't remember which before Woodford closes altogether.

My main love was the Vulcan, I have photos from when they did a fly by at Woodford during a work day, they open the bomb bay doors and inside was GOODBYE. My ex used to work there, it's the only plane that can literally bring me to tears

I Know isn't it fab news. She is a beauty, we went to waddington last year with the specific reason to see her fly (saw her for the saturday at wadd the year before, but sunday she didn't fly). got there really early, put up chairs right next to where she was parked on the runway, went for a walk and whilst queued at the harrier for a look see, the news went round that she wasn't flying due to red tape over the permits. Grrrr, but because it was 6th July that it finally went through, it means that now there has been an annoymous donation to put her in the skies this year she will def fly at waddington on 3rd July.
When the news was made official that she wasn't flying, they brought out a little truck thing to move her to the static concourse and martin grabbed lily, put her on his shoulders and went and stood underneath the wing as she rolled past them.
And hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread Ruth, but here's a little piccie for you.
As for your layout, absolutely fantabulous. I too love love love all aircraft, we have been to a lot over the years, Finningly and now Waddy. Only problem is that the show last year at waddy was too jet 'tame' not enough ooomph. Gorgeous picture of the crunchie wing walkers. They not called Crunchie anymore .
Well done Ruth.

Snap, we saw her saying goodbye at Finningly and I can remember crying openly....but wasn't the only one. And then 18 months ago when we saw her back in the sky, Mum turned to me as I looked away from another lady and all three of us were crying with happiness !!!!
