lunches
ok ,not long to go now so thought id try see what you want to do about lunches . I dont know about you ,but i will not want much with having a big brekky,so was wondering what you wanted to do . My idea is to all take a bit of something ie fruit ,cakes ,cheese ,crackers ,pastries etc. I have the balances from payments of £26.25 (18 @ £26.25 and 1 of £25.00,total of £498.75 minus £400 for room hire and £71.25 for drinks ((they did say biscuits too )) )
and can do whatever you want me to do with that ,ie return it to you all , or spend it on lunch food and treats . I know some are baking cakes but do we really want loads of cakes or is that a silly question remember we have some diabetics among us and some dieters .Sorry I know its boring that is but we have to take it into consideration .
Is someone bringing a mini fridge ??or were they joking ??

Re: lunches
I was going to pop to nearest garage for a pasty, and then to the bar, but..I'll go with the flow.
As long as a pint of cider is in there somewhere though.

Re: lunches
Happy for you to keep my little bit extra and put it towards drinks/munchies, would like some savoury stuffs as well as sweets, crisps, dips, veggie sticks
other than that I shall be trying to eat as cheaply as possible!

Re: lunches
Actually, Kim, being serious, nibbles to have to pick at through the day would be a good idea.
I'm happy to go with the majority though. Whatever you choose.

Re: lunches
I'm not mad about cake tbh, although I'm sure I can manage some . A bit of fresh air and a walk to get a pasty sounds like quite a good idea.
If my budget is tight, was planning to bring a packet of bread rolls and something that doesn't need a fridge (cheese spread in a tube, or a jar of paste ) and make my own lunch, add a few cherry tomatoes and I'm done.
It seems to me that the simplest way, and the one that will cause the least stress to Kim is if we all sort own own 'thing' out? That way we don't have to worry about storage/ keeping stuff cold/ who eats what/ who pays for everything.
Any spare pennies could go towards bar bill; everyone will need something there, whether soft drinks or alcohol.

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date
Re: lunches
I think a nice assortment of sweet and savoury would be great.
When you say walk to the bar, hope it isn't far - even with my stick
I can't go far on my two feet. They are quite poorly at the moment.
I am diabetic but will bring some extra insulin - just in case.

Re: lunches
You did say that there was a supermarket near too didn't you.
I for one am the sort of person that needs a proper lunch. Sarnie and crisps do me fine.
I thought the cakes we are bringing are for coffee time, and snacks if needed.
I think the idea of all do our own thing is good, maybe we could set a time for lunch, and then meet back as and when. I personally would probably get a sarnie from whereever and then bring it back to the conference rooms to eat it.
I had intended on bringing a cake, but last time mine was not touched except by me, so can only presume either carrot cake not liked or mine was just too much cake. So this time I am happy to bring a few big bags of kettle/red sky type crisps and then they can be dipped into as and when. I could also do a batch of mini sausage rolls. They keep quite well in an airtight container without going in the fridge. If I bake them on Fri morning first thing, they'll last til Sunday.
The little bit extra we've all paid could go towards getting some of the bits on the day. Maybe some fruit or even an ice cream if its hot. We could get from the garage/shop for mid afternoon.
Is it worth a seperate thread just for a list of who's bringing what. Then there won't be any doubled up, or wastage. Only an idea. i.e.,
Karin / Crisps + S Rolls
soandso / Choc Cake

Re: lunches
I said I would bring our mini-fridge, Kim - and I think Jo said she would bring one too: a posh one, if memory serves. Brought ours in from the garage the other day: seem to remember you were asking how big it was inside, so will get Steve to help me get it out of the box (you know how one of you needs to hold onto the box while the other pulls the item out) and measure it.
So if Jo can bring her fridge as well, we should have enough room to keep things like cheese, dips or anything that really needs refridgerating. I'm assuming we can get into the meeting area on the Friday so we can plug in said fridges?
I quite like the idea of nibbles being available alongside the cakes, but I don't have any strong feelings about "proper" (sarnie-type) lunch versus snacking. I will bring some fruit with me, though, as I find when we're away you never get enough fruit and veg.
I guess the main questions are: how close are the places where we can buy food and how long is the lunch break? If we have a lot to fit in during the classes etc, would we have time to go out and buy stuff and bring it back to eat?

...and how do the Hotel feel if we plug stuff in? We really need to check, as lots of places will only let you plug stuff in if it has been PAT tested...including Cricut machines

Re: lunches
so far then the general consensus is for everyone to do their own thing . so i will get the refunds bagged up and handed out on arrival , its only about £1.40 per person and jo is a massive 20p but as someone said it will come in handy at the bar .
I am going to be ringing them up within the next few days anyway so will ask about fridge ,plugging in electrical stuff and what they actually provide as part of the bits along with the tea and coffee etc .
Yes there is a tesco 24 hour shop almost next to the place where we are at and steph dont worry ,if you want owt one of us can fetch it for you when we pop to the shop . As for dinner break etc ,its up to yourself when you have that , no set time as some ppl will be hungry before others or in the middle of a project . just lorraines workshops and timescales on the saturday to take into consideration for that .
not a lot of walking about at all steph ,billie from one place to another thats why i chose this place .

Re: lunches
I don't think I'll be doing the big breakfast as we'll be having a good meal at night, I'll still be full up, I'll have a cuppa in the room and a breakfast bar or something. Lunchtime I'll be happy with what I can grab from the shop next door.
I'll bring a tray of caramel shortbread, but that only does about 1 slice each,
Carrot cake sounds lovely Karin

That's a very good idea. It doesn't need to be refrigerated for a couple of weeks or so, but they don't know that.

Re: lunches
I asked about electrical stuff, due to heat guns and such, and they said it was fine. Mind you, that doesn't mean to say they'd have a fridge plugged in, lol.
Also, only biscuits with the tea is what they told me. There will be a jug of cold water constantly refreshed for us too.

Take the fridge and say nowt, Kim.
I don't blame you for checking. It always worries me too, lol.
Karin, I too love carrot cake, but I know why I didn't get any, or much of the other stuff either. I was too busy teaching, lol.

Re: lunches
Agree about the fridge. I don't think they will kick up a fuss if they
think it's needed for insulin - and I can keep it in there . Just prefer it
to be room temp when I use it.

Like Steph if someone will get me something savoury for lunch I will be happy, will bring some nibbles if needed but it sounds as if there is going to be an abundance of treats already.

Re: lunches
I love carrot cake too Karin.
I don't have a fridge its an electric coolbox, will have to find it under the mountain of camping stuff for next weekend too I think. Its the same size as a large coolbox.
I was going to bake something, but do not mind what, savoury or sweet?
I did think that if the breakfast has bagels on it then I will butter or put philly on it and have one of those for lunch, or just fruit/salad from Tesco's. Kim I will give you the 1.25 then it rounds it off to £500, the extra could be used for something then, or even popped in the charity box.

Lol at you all and the carrott cake. I don't make it that often to be honest, because the cake is huge....and its only me that really eats most of it.
So I'll do one this time then, and put a big sign on so you don't miss it . I think there was so much lovely yummy stuff like those donuts that it all got missed. And yes Lorraine I do rememeber you being very busy. This time you have to rest too.
Thanks re refund Kim, not that its a worry for me.
Its getting so close now I'm getting quite excited and panicky that I've loads to do first
