Cards for Men

I know we're always struggling to make cards that are suitable for men: I was reminded of this idea as I was making a couple this afternoon.

If the man enjoys a pint, likes wine, is into Scotch or anything like that, make a card with the appropriate-looking bottle, glass or similar or, if you have them, bottle labels. (Labels don't come off bottles easily these days because of the yucky glue they use, but you might be able to cut some out from an advertisement or leaflet from the supermarket.) Put a greeting on the front, such as "You're 30/40/50" or whatever, or "It's your birthday" and on the insert put "I'll drink to that!".

Alternatively, don't put a greeting on the front but on the insert put "Cheers - it's your birthday!".

The other one I've done is quite a plain card: white card mount, words printed on white and mounted on red then black. The words read "Thought you'd like a card for your birthday" and inside glue on a playing card.

Den's the worst one to make for. He had a wine glass this year (how
many times?) because he is so difficlut. I bought him a metal detector
a couple of years ago and put that on a card, --have done football, several
boozy ones, and that's all he's really interested in. Some films but no
particular genre / group like James Bond. Difficult, but I always come up
with something.

Haha, I like the card one. We once did a card with a set of four cards on the front like a playing hand....and on the inside a single Ace. With the words "you're ace"

Beer bottle stamp has been used loads.

Like the four card idea, Karin. Perhaps we can come up with lots more on this thread.

I kept a few bottle caps from beer we'd had so when I make the beer cards I stick them on somewhere as an embellishment.

Just did a card with bits of ribbon and circle words for men. Its difficult to know what to put on to fill it up LOL.

Was going through my notes and ideas, and found another idea for a man's card.

Cover the front with an old road atlas map or streetplan and add a Happy Birthday (or whatever) greeting. On the insert, put "Hope you plan to have a great birthday" (or whatever).

And another one for a lad or Dad who is football mad.

Landscape card. Top half covered in vertical stripe paper in the colours of their team (if you don't have the colours, draw your own stripes with pens). Plain ribbon across bottom of striped paper with three brads (team colours again if poss) at far left OR ribbon with footballs on. Leave bottom half empty, except for greeting on bottom right-hand side.

I've made several with road maps on the front. If you can find
an old map where the recipient lives, or where they were born. I
made one for a friend's dad several years ago and quite by luck and
coincidence the map I used was where her Dad was born and he was over the
moon. That card had a car pulling a caravan.

I've done a few football cards, finding the team badges on the net and printing them.

Recycling wise, netting off fruit and veg can act as a football net. Obv white is best, but it all depends on the team and child I guess.

I did map bits for the ATCs at the retreat.

My dad had a birthday whilst on holiday, so I did a card that had a bit of map where they lived and a larger map of the place they went to, then just drew in arrows and added embellishments.

Also did a tiger tank on one of his cards as he was getting a kit for that birthday.

So cards can be adapted to tie in with the present if its for someone you are buying a gift for.

I dont dislike doing mens cards, but I do find them hard sometimes, I too have a great beer stamp I use a lot, and pinched the fab idea of Karin with the bottle top, especially if you can match it to what they drink.

Another one that I seem to sell a lot of is a simple motorbike card, people seem to love this one. another stamp that came in a set for £5 odd from hobby craft a great buy.



A lot of men I have been making for recently like fishing and although its a cutey stamp, people seem to like it especially good for Grandads!

Football or rugby card

I tend to use buttons alot on mens cards too

Love the motorcycle cards, Emma - and you could use a different image, or an embellishment if you didn't have the appropriate stamp: the opportunities are endless. Thanks for posting these: I'm sure it will give everyone ideas - as you say, it is always hard to think of something for men.

I just saw that PM have got a new set of bear stamps with male theme out, I almost looked at the price then decided I didn't need them. They were a decent size and looked nice.

the set Emma is talking about is a Personal Impressions one, bike and beer stamp. Was about £6 for the set. But if you were to buy the mounted beer stamp it was £12. Daft eh?
