Wedding Card Help
Ok so the girl i work with who wanted these lovely SIMPLE gatefold cards for invites is now becoming a bridezilla and wants pocketfold invites, specifically something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50-Handmade-Pocketfold-Invitations-various-colours-/250826649262?var=#ht_2382wt_905
Now they look relatively easy to do (though going to involve a lot of measuring which I'm crap at) however this woman says they are 130mm x 130mm which is just under 5"x5", I would figure that she has folded the card herself from 1 sheet of card but that can't be possible with the size shes selling... surely the card would need to be at least 15" long...
Can anyone spot where shes inserted an additional bit of card to lengthen??

Re: Wedding Card Help
The only part I can think it is, is the envelope part.

Re: Wedding Card Help
Think you would need A3 card Kt, the templates/examples I have looked at are made with larger than A4 sheets. Only other way would be to have a smaller flap (so score 5"/10" and make flap from left over) and make the inside compartment with a seperate piece of card and attach it. Bit of a fiddle though!

Re: Wedding Card Help
The flap-over part isn't full length, Kate, so maybe she cut it from 12" x 12" and the flap-over is only 2" deep. Alternatively, maybe she used A3 sheets of card: that would give you 16.5" x over 23". Di has just posted to say the same about A3!

Re: Wedding Card Help
You know I completely forgot about 12x12 card... I couldn't imagine her doing it in A3?? Can you even get pearlescent card in A3?
Re: Wedding Card Help
Had a play an drew this template for A4 card Kt - you could make the inside flap deeper by using top edge of card as outside edge and cutting right down to make bottom edge the top of flap iykwim! Just scribbled this on bit of paper to get the idea lol.
At least it can be cut from one piece of A4card, doing each one from A3 would be bit expensive.

Re: Wedding Card Help
Craft Creations will cut their card to any size you want, so I don't think A3 would be a problem for them (assuming they do pearlescent) and you'd make more than one from an A3.
Well done with your quick sketch, Di.

Re: Wedding Card Help
Just had a play and made one up, from A4 card the two squares worked out at four and half inch square, then the end flap came out about half that width again. I made the inside flap three inches deep, you could get away with a bit less and still have the support. Only thing different is that the inside flap goes in different direction to hers. To do the same as she has you would need the bigger card.

Re: Wedding Card Help
Have just re-looked at this. The bottom pocket is the bit that's added on. You cut the pocket shape with a small fold-over bit on both sides and the bottom. Those are folded over underneath the pocket shape and stuck to the bottom of the card, so that all you see is the pocket.
That way you could cut two from a sheet of 12 x 12, plus you'd have to have extra for making the pockets. But the easiest way (if you're rubbish at measuring) would be using A3, where by using the 16.5" as the height would give you 4 invitations. Simplest way would be to fold over 3" at the top for the flap, then 3.5" at the bottom for the pocket. Leaving the pocket folded up, take that fold up to just under the flap and fold again at the bottom. IYSWIM.

Re: Wedding Card Help
I thought she'd used 12 x 12, but you could well be right Lynda.
Either way, it's a nice design Kate.

This is why I liked the very simple gatefold card
Thanks for the help... wondering if I can convince her just to go for 2 5x5 panels with a pocket... That'd be easy to get out of a sheet of A4 though would still only be able to get 1 invite out of each sheet which is a waste of card. Also she wants 50 invites (plus all the added bits inside)...
Do you think I can bribe her to go back to the gatefold idea???
Re: Wedding Card Help
Bribe her by telling her how much more it will cost her, Kate!
