Palmiers as canapes
Remember these as sweet pastries when I was young: this year they seem to be the 'in' canape, and so easy.
Buy puff pastry - the rolled-out one is quickest, although a bit dearer.
Spread the pastry with your chosen filling: last night I did Waitrose tomato chutney on one half and pesto on the other. Don't have anything too lumpy, or it won't roll up.
Roll up the pastry from the right, until you get to the centre.
Ditto from the left.
Cut into pieces about a quarter of an inch thick, place on baking sheet and bake at 200 degrees - think mine took about 20 minutes.

Yes, Di - that's where we saw them, and thought they were so easy - and look so effective - that we'd have a go.

I think we made them with ham/bacon and cheese with mustard.
