Re: Mums 60th present
Well, I think it's super, Carol. I can't believe you 'threw' it together, lol.
If she doesn't like it...well, you know what you should do with it/her.
Nice one, hun.

That's super for being 'thrown together'. Don't see how she
can't like it.

Re: Mums 60th present
hey girl, don't stress..just give her a stamped addressed envelope (my address)and if she doesn't like it, she can send it to me...i won't be offended with her cast off. you can see how much work has gone into it.

It's gorgeous, and the bracelet is very pretty too. maybe you could print off and attach some of the comments form us lusting after it, that might make her think.

They are all lovely. How long does it take to make quick?

Mums necklace took me about an hour and half, and the bracelet only took about 15mins lol.
Thanks everyone. Mum opened it and didnt look all that impressed. She said 'oh thats nice' didnt have a very good look at it and wrapped it back up and put it back in the box.
But you know what? I dont care anymore. When she wants me to make fancy stuff for her friends as presents again, i will tell her im busy. Cant be doing with it.
I dont expect her to do a song and dance about anything i make her, just a thanks would be nice.

Re: Mums 60th present
One piece of advice now Carol....
Don't ever expect anything positive or pleasant from her....this way she will never let you down again and make you feel bad....also...one day she might surprise you.
I have had people like that in my life. we pretend we don't really care, but we do and then try to hide the hurt...dont fall into that trap again. Maybe one day you will discover why she behaves like this, it may be a very low opinion of herslef which translates to low opinions of others...or she just doesn't know how to be nice.

Re: Mums 60th present
You know what sue, i think you may have something there hun. She is always making comments like 'you clever sod, you can turn your hand to anything' or if she is talking to others about things ive made with me there she will say something like 'Oh well she dont get her talent from me'... I think she may be jealous of me. How can a mum be jealous cos her daughter is good at something? Personally i would be well pleased!
I dunno, i think she needs a reality check. She was not like this when me and my sister were little. The past 20 odd years she has really changed.
Ho hum. Life goes on though eh.

Re: Mums 60th present
To be quite honest Carol, I think some parents do feel like that.
Instead of feeling proud for their offsprings achievements, it makes them
feel inadequate because they never achieved anything.

Re: Mums 60th present
Yeah i get what you mean steph. Thing is what is quite annoying actually is that she is quick enough to 'use' my achievements when it suits her.
If she wants a bouquet of flowers, or a piece of jewellery for her friends for their birthday she is quick enough to use me then. She came over the other week and handed me a couple of bunches of flowers and some cellophane and said 'I want you to make me a bouquet for so and so, you got some ribbon havent you?' I was quite taken back. A please would have been nice.
As for the jewellery, she wants all these fancy pieces made (only cos she knows i will only charge her for the cost of the materials) and then normally says 'couldnt you make it better?' Its quite infuriating to be honest.

Re: Mums 60th present
I think an honesty check would be in order. She needs to know how long it takes you and that you don't have time on your hands waiting for her to come up with some project to keep you busy. Next time just say, I'll have to charge for my time too and quote an hourly rate like plumbers and car mechanichs. She also needs to know that you don't appreciate her lack of enthusiasm when you have made something. Next time say that you're not going to as she hasn't even said please and it takes far too long.

Re: Mums 60th present
I would be mean and say, if you would like me to do it, i will if you came and keep me company while i do it? then she will see what energy and time it takes..
Or offer to teach her how to do something that looks glam, that she can achieve.......or...invite me over at same time as she is there and i will 'big' you up..it will drive her nuts if she is jealous and she will realise if she is just unaware.

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date
Re: Mums 60th present
They're beautiful, Carol: wish I was your Mum, if I got presents like that! You'd certainly get a proper thankyou.
