PMC/ Art Clay

Okay, this jewellery making bug has bitten hard , and I'm quite tempted to have a go at some silver clay to go with my glass beads. The clay does seem to be quite expensive, so I'm not wanting to make any costly mistakes!

Do any of you have any experience of using PMC or Art Clay silver? Is there a discernable difference between the two? I'm lucky enough to have the kiln already, so apart from that i don;t think I would need many 'tools', apart from a wire brush?

Any recommendations/ handy hints/ good suppliers would be really welcome!

Lorraine certainly used it recently. I use orddinary clays like Fimo
but haven't tried the PMC although I have seen it on craft channels.

I think if you go onto Lou's website (link from her profile) you can see the silver stuff she made.

My daughter uses PMC, she says its better than Art Clay.

I thinl art calyh better than pmc.

Don't need kiln for arrt clay. I use gas burner. depends on thidkness.

Too 'spensive!

Obviously the PMC is better for making jewellery, but it is a pricey
item as it is actually silver/gold .

I don't mind spending the money, but I think I need to decide on either PMC or Art Clay, rather than Goaty's suggestion of both! Is PMC better for jewellery then? That might sway my decision....

I think the PMC is particularly for jewellery, but wait until Lorraine has
woken up and is feeling better as she will be able to tell you more as she
has used both I think.

They are both suitable for jewellery, Tina but the Art Clay is easier to work with. Both have very fast drying time and you have to work really fast, but you have a bit of leeway with the Art Clay.

Having said that, it's only my opinion and lots of people prefer the PMC.

I think you should try one and save up for some of the other kind...or just treat yourself...how much are we talking about 'moneywise'?

I used PMC years ago Tina. You have to work fairly quickly with it as it dries out quickly. It is expensive but lovely to see the finished result.
