Dirty great caterpillar. God knows what he will turn into. He looked better from the side, more like he had eyes.

Well I would say he was coming on for 5". Actually he is probably still there, in the rain, coz I didn't have the nerve to try to move him.

It's a Hawk moth caterpillar, they love Fuschias which I see yours is on.

i thought same Di...i burdy scared witless of mothy/butterfly things...used to please my dad no end as would spend hours getting caterpillars off the cabbages etc...just so that i wouldn't have to see moths or butterflies in the garden...or coming through my window. dont know if u could pick this beasty up

What a fabulous creature and he will turn into such a wondrous Moth too. How lucky to have him close enough to take such a fantastic photo. Wish I could find one in my garden - though not on my fuchsia!! Watch out if you are putting this fuchsia in a greenhouse as there may be more eggs, etc. and they will eat anything in sight!!!
