Oooo I'm in Love....
....with a Tan Embossing Mat.
I've bought two of the Impressabilities from our local shop, and as part of my 'wage' for doing the demo the other weekend she gave me a tan embossing mat.
I've used it on the nesties I got from the states (took a while to figure out the instructions and what goes where, but sorted my own layering for it).
I decided tonight to have a go with my brass stencils. Actually had two still in sealed bags from about 3 years ago. That's how long it is since I used the stencils..............AND WOW, the effect was brilliant. These were square stencils with xmas tree and a snowflake in them, and its embossed the square of the stencil as well, looks fab.
I can at last use a forgotten crafty item again. Woo Hoo

Its a mat that you use with spellbinders (wizard) dies. usually they come as a twin pack, but our shop has split them to cut costs.
I promise to post piccy as soon as I get batteries for my camera.

Re: Oooo I'm in Love....
Have heard a lot about them and seen them in various online shops but not got one myself - yet! I know craft obsessions have them in two sizes, small one is £4 I think, and have 12"x12" so assume you could cut to size you wanted.

Re: Oooo I'm in Love....
yep, they help make the stencils embossing better. There are a few places with details on how to use them if you google.

Re: Oooo I'm in Love....
Yes you do. We'd used it in class as a try out, but when I got home couldn't remember how I layered it, so it took me a few mins to work it out.
I have the big shot, with white thick platform and the two thin clear plates. This is the order I did it and it worked
From the bottom layer up:
White Thick platform
3 pieces of card (shims)
Clear Plate
Die/Stencil
Card/Paper/Vellum - the bit you want it done on
Tan Mat
Clear Plate
Then roll it through.
Depending on whether you want a deboss or emboss depends on which side you face your paper/card. If its plain both sides then it won't matter. But if colour face it down for emboss and face up for deboss.
I love it, think its fab.

Re: Oooo I'm in Love....
I use the Sizzix embossing mat. Same thing, but a bit cheaper I think, not sure. I bought a couple of those fancy impressionabilities or whatever they're called and can't say I'm that impressed with them. Maybe I need a shim or summat to get a good impression.
