Selling my cards in a local shop
HI everyone
Some advice if anyone can help, my local shop (its a bit like an indoor marke has a few different outlets inside) has a new outlet that sells retro sweets, chocolate etc and are introducing big boxes of chocolates gift wrapped etc, well I was talking to one ofthe shop keepers and mentioned I did handmade cards, she was very intersted and has said she will give me a little stand free of charge to see how well they sell etc, she thought it would compliment her shop, I could also do gift tags etc.
Am very excited, but have just realised to I need any sort of licence, I dont want to get into trouble or anything, what about the tax man etc? I cant imagine selling hundreds or anything but not sure about all the legalities.
I am also going to look at doing samples of cards for my Mum to take to her works and a few of my friends, again do I need anything to be able to do this properly?
Thanks
Emma

Re: Selling my cards in a local shop
Officially, Emma any income is taxable if it takes you over the threshold. However, nobody bothers for a few handmade cards (or even loads of them, lol). The lady that owns the stand should have sorted any legalities so you don't need a licence.
My advice...go do it, enjoy it and don't worry.

Re: Selling my cards in a local shop
Go for it Emma - with the price of "good" cards in the shops, your hand made ones should go like the clappers. Good, good luck to you - hope you sell loads and loads. xx

Go for it Emma - that's the sort of thing I would love to have done, but
not able to trudge round local shops. I wish you all the besy and hope
you sell lots of your work.

You're unlikely to earn more than the level required for tax etc which is over £1000pa I'm sure, esp once you've taken all your costs off, including packaging and delivery to the shop, do not worry.
Good luck.
Good luck.
