Noel decoration
This is the decoration I made for my friends who came over last week: I didn't post the picture before, because it was using the same technique as the handmade gift in Tina's SS from me.
It's made on a block of scrap wood which used to have an unmounted stamp stuck on it, so is well and truly recycled. Painted in a baby blue and with some scraps of the same paper pack I used for Billie's forum card and my friend Deb's shadow box: the letters were cut from the covering sheet of the pack, where it had representations of everything which was contained including the sheet of letters - they were a bit fiddly. The block is only about 4" by 2.5": luckily I had a tiny heart brad in the right colour, and a tiny snowflake eyelet. The button is a doll's button.
These are really lovely things to make, especially if you have de-mounted your stamps and don't know what to do with the blocks: the possibilities are endless and the ornament can stand neatly on any surface. The one I made for Tina is four separate blocks, smaller than this one.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order, just like they should be.

Re: Noel decoration
Ooh love it. Just saw some (not cheap) letter blocks at HC but decided I can make
something next year. This is gorgeous Lynda. That's what I call true recycling.

Beautiful, would make a lovely gift for a man too as it's not too girly.

Re: Noel decoration
That is really lovely, so love that blue.
I have a few wood blocks that I can try using, but will need to saw them at least in half as they are 2x2 or 3x3 square.

Re: Noel decoration
It's the same papers as I used on your forum card, Billie.
Don't worry about the size of the blocks, it doesn't matter. You can adapt your word to the shape you've got: for instance, do a four-letter word like Noel or Love just like Karelyn did it on her button hanging: the NO or LO at the top and the EL or VE at the bottom, which will fit fine on a square.

Re: Noel decoration
That is lovely Lynda and gorgeous colours.
Saw those letters at HC Steph and did wonder about buying some, but got some from Aldi in red that spelt Noel. Think I might alter them a bit for next year though.

Re: Noel decoration
Thanks, everyone: I really enjoy making things like this - have some more blocks and some ex-stamp blocks (ie the ones that came with the rubber on) and will do some more.
I'd love some of the big wooden letters, but can't bring myself to spend the money when I should be able to make something!
