Yes, you stick the tape to ordinary copy paper first, then DST it to the item once embossed.
I'm wondering what would happen if you just embossed the tape with it's own backing on then stuck it to the item once embossed, might try it on a small thing one day.

It's the stuff I brought with me at the weekend, but we didn't have a free slot really for us to try it. Aluminium plumbers tape, 3M make it.
