Pop-up box cards Empty Pop-up box cards

Post by lyndaejane Tue 25 Mar 2014 - 13:44

I know a couple of you have tried these (was it Di and Karelyn?), but I wondered if you did the box part with a lot of measuring?

Only ask because Nicky of Polka Doodles (the shop we called in at in York last week - my treat after the hospital ordeal) did a demo this morning on Create & Craft showing you how to construct the box with just quick folding and cutting. If anyone's interested in the instructions, will put them up on here.

It was Jo that posted the original one and a link I think. But yes please, must get around to doing Rachel's birthday card soon.

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date  Laughing

Here's the instructions I promised:

Pop-up box cards 00110

I'm sorry: it's very difficult to describe - much easier to see it done! Have a look at the ones that Jo and Di have made to see the finished product.

The illustrations show where the folds should be after each action. When the box is finished, the bottom four parts of the panels will form the box (it doesn't have a bottom to it, for those who haven't seen one) and the top four parts are the equivalent of the top flaps of the box, in that they flop down to reveal the 'pop-ups' - which aren't really pop-ups. They're actually static, just glued to the bases inside the box, but look like they've popped up because of the 'flaps' which have flopped down to reveal them. When made up, the card will fold flat, with two panels at the front and two at the back, with the flaps folded into the up position. The recipient will open the envelope and the flaps will fall down to show the pop-ups.

You can have as many or as few pop-ups as you want: just make sure you have provided enough bases to glue them to. Because the bases are one behind the other they will give a 3-D effect to the pop-ups.

Have a try with a piece of scrap paper, just making the box without the pop-ups: mark an X on the panel where the bases will be, so you can look inside and see where they would be, to get an idea of how it all works.

Its a lot easier to follow the instructions on Splitcoast stampers. There are step by step photos too. It was one of fastest cards i have done. I never did a mothes day one in the end as made one at school with kids and used that.

Ah - is the one on Splitcoast just done with folds, Jo? I put this up because Nicky said that the tutorials she'd seen were all done with lots of measuring.
