Foldable dog bowl Empty Foldable dog bowl

Post by gingerjo Tue 7 Oct 2014 - 10:34

I have been making these foldable bowls, can just pop in a pocket as fold down small if your out and about. Maya is a pain and won't use communal water bowls, then we wouldn't eh.

I really like them and although you can get collapsible bowls on the market you cannot get them like this. Waterproof and good for food for puppies if you need to take out etc. I have seen people use tuppaware and they don't want to put there nose in. Washable too.

So price, what do you reckon? I was going with about £4-5 but a friend said she would pay £8-10. I think that's too much and do want to sell them. Don't tell me to account for materials, time etc as we know that doesn't really happen in the real crafting world! In fact they do not cost that much to make or take that long either. Just a bit tricky in the machine! oh and prob about 5" square.

Kate I am counting on you here, lol

Great idea Jo. They may well be worth more than a fiver, but I'm a firm believer in keeping your prices down and selling more

If you're doing this as a business don't sell yourself short; putting prices down is do-able, putting them up is well nigh impossible. If you want it to be a self-funding hobby then go low, but if you're a business then you have to make money otherwise there's no point is there?

As a minimum you have to cover your costs and double it to make a profit.

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date  Laughing

Tina's right: if it's just a hobby, then covering costs is OK, but I thought you were hoping to make this a small business. How much do other collapsible dog bowls cost? Make sure you charge at least as much, and probably more. Materials, threads, cost of electricity for machine, machine needles etc, but nothing allowed for time, as you say! Possibly a matching, waterproof inside and out cover available as an option? For if you're on foot and need to carry it after being used. Much nicer than shoving it in a plastic bag: just a thought.

You counting on me to give input or buy?? Of buy you'll have to wait till after nov 7th lol

They look good, but I wouldn't pay more than a fiver if I'm honest. Also I wouldn't purchase in seasonal fabrics, I'd prefer either gender based or pretty fabrics. But once again this is just me and how tight I am lol
