Cheese Straw Christmas tree

There was a video on FB can't remember who put it up and it looked v simple.
The original used green pesto to give a more tree like colouring, but I prefer the red stuff.
V Simple and quick

Preheat oven gas 7
2 sheets of ready made puff pastry,  Roll each out to about a foot long - it was on offer in the ready rolled form when I went shopping, so double whammy.
spread one with a thin covering of pesto, grate some cheese over, I added mixes herbs and a bit of spice
place the other sheet on top to form a sandwich, roll or press down firmly.
Cut (I used kitchen scissors) a tree shape from the pastry so that you have a triangle take off each side, turn these and place together to form another tree. Squish the edges together to join along the length of the 'trunk'.
Cut 3/4 " strips in from the edge to form the straws all the way up each side. The twist each straw, squeezing the ends together gently to seal.brush with milk or beaten egg, grate a bit more cheese over.
Bake for 15 mins.
The one on the left is the one made from the 'scraps' (with a join up the middle) the one on the right is cut in one piece.
I cut a trunk and use the trimmings to make starts at the top.

Looks really effective, Karelyn! Can't imagine me having enough people here to polish two off, though, but suppose you could freeze the second one for another time.

You could make your pastry triangular to begin with and just do 1. A handy thing to take to a bring and share do though.

That looks tasty Karelyn and suppose you could do any type of filling.

Yes, as long as it's more of a flavouring than a filling, wouldn't work with anything too deep but might be ok with a bit of jam then the fingers could be dunked in cream perhaps.

It looks interesting but I like my Cheese Straws with cheese only
