Todays pretties Empty Todays pretties

Post by Bead Queen - Carol Fri 17 Apr 2009 - 0:08

Ok, i have been wanting to try this for ages, it was published in the issue before last of beadwork magazine, my friend Kerrie Slade had another one of her tutorials published. I love Kerries work, she is awesome!

Anyhow, heres my first attempt at making a brickstitch flower...

Its is supposed to have another two smaller flowers attached, but i like it with just one.

Here is my version that ive just finished, an easier pattern to do than Kerrie's (well i think so anyway lol) its made using circular brick stitch around a core bead. Mind you i say its easier, its just as time consuming, takes me about 3hrs lol!

This is only a prototype though, i think i should have stuck in another delica in on the second round after the core bead though cos i just noticed there is a gap grrr.

Anyhow, im off to bed, my eyes are like pee holes in the snow now lol.

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date  Laughing

They are lovely, Carol - I can see why you were happy with just the one. It makes such a statement on its own.

Lovely - really quite different, but they take a long time to make.
I don't think I'd like any more flowers. Look nice as they are.

Lol dont worry i love red, and always end up making one of my designs in red (i normally have it though hehe).

Delica beads are more cylinder shape like this...

Todays pretties AV2fqEkA

And Normal seed beads are more rounder on the edges so dont always butt up together nicely

Todays pretties Pq2gf9j0

Both types of beads are great to use, but the cylinder delica beads are better for projects like the flowers or something you want to be really smooth and flat.

I just had to but some beads from a cheapy /factory shop i bought pink and then went back with Thrifty and got yellow too..sadly, i missed getting the lilac as i mistakenly thought i had bought lilac and needed pink and they didn't have any pink so i bought yellow.

Then i went in another shop that Thrifty had to take me in...and i bought a box with small pkts of beads in...then i bought some Krylobond, is that right? i am planning to use beads etc on a blank calico type shopping bag, those red beads are lush....

I didn't find one proper craft shop in southend, so made do with the cheapy shops and a knitting sewing shop. I also bought myself a scrapbooking book ..original price £11.99, for £1.99..inside is good but the date is 2006...thats why it was cheap in The Works (Karelyn also dragged me kicking and screaming in there too) Twisted Evil I told you that i would blame you Karelyn lol!

dont suppose you took much dragging though suzy , no crafter needs to be forced into going in a shop where they might sell stash or books

You've done a super job, Carol. They're lovely, hun.

Goaty, there is a craft shop in Southend. Pullin' on the Glitz, but it's on the industrial estate.

I did ask around but didn't get told about that one...and...i even looked in the local leaflet/book i found in the pier visitors centre...I did get loads of pics of the pier, as Teabag had once visited it and knew of course about the fires, she was keen to see how the restoration was going.

Thanks again everyone.

It is a very time comnsuming project especially as i have to keep getting up and down to sort out the kids when they are home. I made two more flowers (one thurs and one yesterday) while the kids were in school, so i could concentrate a lot better lol.

I will post pics when i get chance.
