Sea glass Empty Sea glass

Post by Guest Mon 6 Jul 2009 - 11:14

Here's a few more bits ... this is sea glass, then covered in UTEE, foils, embossing powders, etc. Great fun to do - and they feel so lovely and smooth when they are finished. Put black alcohol ink on the backs so it lifted the colours nicely.

No, I'm not putting my 'to do' list here, that would be far to organised, PLUS I would have to keep it up to date  Laughing

Never heard of sea glass. It looks like very thick glass.
I have a small piece - green in colour. Don't know if it's the
same - can't even remember where it came from.

Well sea glass is those bits of broken bottles, jars, etc. that get washed up on the beach and are smoothed by years of bashing against the sand until it goes translucent and the edges are all worn soft and curvy too. In our family, for some strange reason, we have always called it chine.

my nana invented the word chine for it, she said that was what it was called when I was 5 years old and so it has always been knonw thus by us. It is only recently that Patty has told me that that isnt actually a word!

I used to pick up stacks of that when I was a kid and ammonites, if only I knew then what I knew now. It wasn't called sea glass though, but the word we used is beyond me

Post by Bead Queen - Carol Tue 4 Aug 2009 - 21:07

I collected some sea glass from the beach on sunday. Its lovely and smooth around the edges too.

I found some then told the girls to look for some too, and they thought sea glass was made in the sea lmao. Well, with a name like that anyone could make that mistake hehe.

Just got to make something with it once ive cleaned it now.
