Wax Paper and your Cuttlebug
You can make your own backgrounds by embossing waxed paper. You may have to experiment with your card as some work better than others.
1. Load up your cuttlebug as normal and using a sheet of waxed paper in your folder instead of card, emboss it. (you may need a shim to get a good impression).
2. Heat a DRY iron to hot. Put the wax paper onto your chosen cardstock and cover with a sheet of scrap copy paper. Iron over this until you see the wax pattern appear on your scrap.
3. Quickly peel the wax paper off your card and then cover your card with a DYE ink of your choice. If you have a good card, you should see the design appear.
4. When your card is covered, take a piece of kitchen towel and rub off the excess ink.
You now have a background to use that will match your chosen embossing folder.

Re: Wax Paper and your Cuttlebug
aww that is a good one... I must have a go at that, so thank you so much. just a few questions...
- I assume from the pic that distress ink is dye ink?
- where do I get wax paper? I mean is it sold as that and can it be ordered? would anything else do for paupers (such as maybe the inner packet of cereals)
super stamp by the way too. Thank you lorraine, for this technique.

Re: Wax Paper and your Cuttlebug
Distress ink is a dye ink, Maria, yes, water based. But so are many others, some oil based (Archival for example) Memories, Whispers.....
I don't think cereal packet stuff would work as I'm not sure that's proper waxed stuff, you could try though. This stuff is the type that handmade soap is wrapped in, sort of waxy both sides and yes, you can buy it online and in grocery stores and such too, I think.
You could try it with a pigment ink but most would rub off, although it's bound to stain your card, so more experimenting I think.

Re: Wax Paper and your Cuttlebug
Fabulous technique, Lou! Delicatessens usually use waxed paper, Maria - possibly over there, too. Ours did (closed now). Lakeland used to sell waxed paper, but then stopped. Can probably get it somewhere on the Internet!
Edited to say yes, Kim: you're right. We did that at college but it was a slightly different technique. Paper on top of texture (I used a large swirl background rubber stamp) and rub candle over to pick up design. Then colour on top (we used paint) and the wax makes a resist where the design is.

Re: Wax Paper and your Cuttlebug
I doubt it, Kim. There's no wax on them to melt.

Re: Wax Paper and your Cuttlebug
Well it's not often I have the stuff but don't know what to do with it!!! When I went for a day to the Craft Barn, I bought a pack of waxed paper because some people were raving about putting it in their CB and colouring it and WOW - now I know how to do it. Thanks Lorraine - lovely to see something I can fiddle about with at the end of what has got to be one of the worst days yet!! Have just got back from the Hospice (9.00pm) having been called down there at 9.30 this morning!!! Off to the red wine bottle now.

Re: Wax Paper and your Cuttlebug
when we did the candle class at the 'weekend' last year, the brown greaseproof paper we used had a waxy residue. I know this cos it melts and gives me little pearls when I use it know. Presume it might work to practice with.
This is a fab technique, thanks Lorraine for putting it up. xx
