started planting

Spent a happy hour this morning planting the first lot of seeds for this years crop! Trying to grow leeks, tomatoes, aubergine, chillis, peppers and some flowers!

Your getting going nice and early, have you got a lovely warm greenhouse?
No seeds gone in here yet, just the spuds sitting on the windowsill to get them chitting.

Surprisingly, my autumn sown sweet peas have been out there uncovered in the cold frame all through the past two months of snow. My pond is still frozen and so is the water butt, yet they have grown and are green and lovely and bushy .... what hardy little things they have proved. Can't wait to get out there but still frozen here today with light snow showers. Will it ever end???

It is nice to see things shooting in the garden now, I noticed one of my honeysuckle has quite big shoots on it now.

All the blubs I planted in the autumn are coming up, tulips and snowdrops and I can't remember what else so it'll be a nice suprise. Other plants are trying to come back to life after I hacked them to the ground, including a rose that is older than me!

The plants that were in the Green House haven't survived but as it's only one of those little plastic tent ones I'm not suprised although I have bought a fleece to line it next year.

Poundland had some fleeces in different sizes as well as some cloche tunnels, bargain!

I have potatoes chitting on my kitchen floor and have planted broad beans, wee bit early for anything else yet. Must go up the lottie to check my leeks, they must be ready to pull now.

I have a tub with daffs in that we did as a school family day, they're both about 2-3" high. Snowdrops been up for a while.

I need to prune now don't I. I've got hydrangea and roses to do. Last year I did the roses late at the end of feb begin of march and they still reached the top of the garage come october !!!!

I never prune my roses until March, Karin.

Our broadbeans have been in the ground since before christmas, looking very good at the moment.

I would give it a few more weeks before pruning Karin.

im sure if you prune now karin the plants will go into shock or something its too early, dont do it

I prune in the Autumn as the wind seems to whip around my garden and has uprooted things before.


There are potatoes chitting in the cupboard but they aren't supposed to be they are supposed to be for eating!

Ah Ok, must admit I have only done it in Feb cos a gardening website said to do it , will leave it a bit longer....if for nothing else than i don't have to go out in the cold LOL

I bought some seeds of Peas, Radish, Gem Lettuce and 2 packs of flowers today. Netto selling them for 19p a pack. Which considering B&Q and places like that are about £1.49 a pack I think thats 'blooming' marvellous.

I've got the cold frame, so next month I'll get them in the little pots Lily and I have saved, put them in the frame for as long as I can. The peas are going in a sep tub instead of the ground, as not really got anywhere for them. The lettuces and raddishs will go in something similar, prob a grow bag
