Felt tip pens.... Empty Felt tip pens....

Post by Scrap Monkey Tue 7 Feb 2012 - 22:28

sorry if this info is elsewhere; I did have a look and couldn't find it, and I need some opinions please. My old faithful colouring pens from Hobbycraft are beginning to show signs of wear.

*If* I were to buy some new colouring pens (which I don't need, lol....... or do I?), the choice is Promarkers or Copics, right? Any others? Anyone want to argue the case for and against each type (or send me to a link that will tell me?). I can't afford hundreds, so I'm loathe to go for 'six shades of grey' and 'six shades of purple' type sets, as I ideally need a good few 'basic' colours. Do they do mixed sets at all? Budget is an issue also.

Any help gratefully received! Loves ya

Confused of Pennar. Mr Green

I have some promarkers, never tried copics. Promarkers do do some sets.

If I could have afforded every single colour I'd have had Copics because personally, I think the colours are a tad more vibrant than the others, but...I love my Promarkers and wouldn't change now. They do lots of sets.

I have some Tria markers, some Aquamarkers, some Flexmarkers AND a few copics and they very rarely see the light of day.

There are some out now called Spectrum Noir, but I couldn't pass judgement on them as I've not got any.

They're not good for journalling though, too thick, so if you use them for that too go back to the old PM ones, which I haven't tried for colouring but use for jounalling a lot. (PM's)

No worry about using them for journalling; I only use black or brown pens for that. I have some cute new stamps from Little Claire that need colouring in.

Cowling and Wilcox seem to have the best price for Promarkers, with their sale on at present.

Out of all the colouring pens I have used, I still love PMs the best.
The only thing you need to keep in mind is that they do bleed through
the back of most papers, so if its a topper or something that's going to
be matted, not a problem.
I know Joanna Sheen had good prices but I can't remember if she does single ones.

some good info on the Letraset site, I have to say I do like brush nibs, so I may go with Flexmarkers. When I make a decision. Eventually.

I have had a set of 'Whispers Strokes' a 'Sugarloaf' product for some while, and I find them really great, I bought them at a Craft Fair about two or three years ago, they are in a pack that can be stood up when folded to a triangle or can be opened right out to hang up.

That's interesting Cath as I think some are too dark, it probably depends what you want to colour.
I reckon if you want results like Lorraine and Ruth get, you buy what they've got.

Gee, no pressure then Crying Laughin . I was hoping for anything that doesn't look like a six year old coloured it in!

Best price for a 12 set so far is 'Icon UK'. £13.25, free p&p. Just need to choose which ones now!

*ahem* I am a conveyancing executive! I've moved into the realms of legal admin thank you very much! Laughing and even before when I've done customer service I made sure it was roles where I didn't have to sell anything! Though in my late teens I was quite the double glazing/conservatory cold caller Wink

Honestly Tina, I bought my Promarkers back in 2009 on a bit of a whim as they were reduced at paperchase. I am useless at colouring and I thought that like you it would end up looking like something coloured in with felt tips by a kid! So imagine my surprise when it didn't.

These were some of my first attempts:

ALSO! Out of that pack of 12, I've only had to replace 3 of the pens so far!
