Hedgehog garden ornament
This is the hedgehog we made yesterday at Jewellery Group: it's made using the same technique as the earrings shown at the front of the picture. You wind the wire round something cylindrical (knitting needle for the earrings, broom handle for the hedgehog) to make a coil; remove from cylinder; pull coil out a bit, to give some space between each ring of the coil; start winding the coil over and over, like we used to do to make a ball of knitting wool, to form a ball.
When I was about two-thirds through the winding (it doesn't form a decent ball shape for a while), I looked to see if there was an area that was a bit sparse that I could form into the nose. Nose is a circle of drink-can aluminium, made into a cone, and wired onto the hedgehog: eyes are black beads, also wired on.

Wore the purple earrings, same design, last Thursday and the chiropodist has asked me to make two pairs for her - receptionist commented on them, too.
