gardening question

This was a standard lavender of a sort, large purple flowers compared to the normal one, it has gone all straggely so can anyone tell me what to do with it before I just pull it up and throw it.

I usely give my lavender a good trim, either late autumn or now (did mine yesterday), although its a small type it does like it's haircut!
But not seeing what yours is like, it may of got too woody and be past the trimming point. Try taking some cuttings from it and start again.

Yes Billie, lavenders need trimming as soon as they finish flowering and you must not cut into old dead wood or that's the end of the bush. They are so cheap to buy that I would be inclined (even skinflint old Patty!) to chuck it out and treat yourself to a new one - then remember to cut it well once it has flowered.

Thanks that's what I thought that its to late, it did not have much flower on it not like the what I call normal lavender, and there was very little perfume to it, and the wind kept blowing it over LOL, so out it goes.

just agreeing really.... trimming it after it has flowered is good anwyay cos then it doenst get too woody and you cna make lavender bags with the trimmed off bits.

I don't think it was that kind of lavender Maria, the flowers were far to big, I have got one of the type that you can use for making smelly bags.

I am going to buy another lavendar bush/plant today....i love lavendar but killed the big one off and the repplacements didn't even get in the ground...

the very first lav bush I had was at our old house and being new to all the garden stuff I never knew to trim it. By the time I took it out of the ground it had grown and flopped and grown to about 4 foot wide and 2 foot high.

My smaller one in tub outside front door gets a haircut every year. ;)

We have the wrong type of soil for lavender, it's too acidic. Keeps dying off in my garden.

I don't have a clue what kind of soil there is here, I only got the blooming thing cause I was told it kept something or other of my rose bush.

Celfy..thats a flippin laugh..the soil here is not good...very clay
..but...thats why i use the bags of compost...lol.....i want my compost bin..i did almost get a kitchen composter from freecycle but i was beaten to it.
