Embellishment Question Empty Embellishment Question

Post by kt_dragonfly Sun 11 Apr 2010 - 14:46

This is probably a question none of you can really answer, but how the heck do you decide on what embellishments to bring along with you to retreats????

Or do you just generally take papers and then add embellies when you get home?
I dont have a clue and looking round my craftroom wondering if Ruths car will be able to fit everything Embellishment Question 528403 (only joking Ruth!!!)

Tell me if you solve the problem...i only have a little car...however, the seats at back do fold down lol

i try to take everything..but it aint gonna happen.

i suppose the sensible thing is to take everything you need for challenges etc and papers and card...and then a die cutting machine...or two....and then basic tools....or rent a stretch limo Embellishment Question Icon_rolleyes

Embellishment Question Empty Re: Embellishment Question

Post by karinlouise Sun 11 Apr 2010 - 16:06

Well when I sorted my stuff the other day. I started by just sorting out the things I would need for the challneges etc.,

Then, I looked at the sort of things I already use for cards etc,. and put a few of each into boxes and bags. For instance, prima flowers, I'm bringing a small cliplock box. Gems and Buttons are each in small bags with a couple of each colour. I took far too much last time and never got half of it used.

For the main part, the B&W and the altered tin are going to be for your use in the end, so whatever you like normally is the sort of thing to bring.

The Photo LO is your take on the pic, so again your sort of embellishments.

The Card Kit and Stash Baggie is all in the bag anyway.

The only thing I couldn't decide on was paper, so I've got a good handful of 8x8 and a full pad of 12x12 (which funnily enough was the raffle prize I won at the last retreat)

Post by kt_dragonfly Sun 11 Apr 2010 - 18:44

Well most of my brads/eyelets/etc are in mini RUBs so wont be too hard to through in my tote.

It'd be ok if I knew whose picture I was getting for the photo swap, then I could pack the appropiate embellies, but I'm thinking I've got to bring enough embellishments for about 18/19 peoples tastes... Embellishment Question Affraid

Come on Ruth, Kim, Dawn, Patty, your expert retreaters! Tell us how you do it!!!

Embellishment Question Empty Re: Embellishment Question

Post by Scrap Monkey Sun 11 Apr 2010 - 18:51

Well I've only been to a couple of retreats before, but I'm a great fan of naked chipboard; I can colour it with any one of my chalk inks to match/ tone with papers, or add rub-ons.

Prima flowers don't weigh much or take up much room, likewise a handful of ribbons.

Other than that, i have a couple of small sectioned boxes that have brads/ eyelets/ buttons in.

I am hoping to get it all into my Robox plus one small bag. Given the distance that Jane and I are travelling, and rising fuel prices, I'm trying to keep the weight of baggage in the car within sensible limits. I know we joke about it being a big car, but filling it to bursting will make a big difference to the cost of the weekend....

I will fill up before we leave, and then when we leave to come home, it's probably a full tank each way for us.

Embellishment Question Empty Re: Embellishment Question

Post by Guest Mon 12 Apr 2010 - 22:21

Kt - with the other bigger retreats, you know in advance what classes you are getting plus any extras you have chosen and then you get a list of requirements and a list of photo sizes, but I think this retreat of ours is slightly less formal and when I go to one of those sorts of retreats I take as little as possible, i.e. about half a dozen basic colour flowers (white or cream) which I can stamp and colour, half a dozen plain brads (also can be coloured or inked), half a dozen eyelets (ditto!) and some neutral ribbon or tape (also to be coloured to match). I pack into one large tote and when that's full, that's it. Everything else gets left at home. I also have a small tool tote (although Mia thinks it's large - she hasn't seen many others!!) - everyone is free with their stash, and you don't usually get stuck for anything at all. I also take the tiniest suitcase I can find and just one change of clothes in case I spill something. (plus undies and hankies) that's all!!

plus I suppose if you are doing something and you KNOW you have the perfect embellie at home, well, surely you just leave it and add it on at home afterwards dont you?

last retreat I went on was DIY one too but everyone had way way too much stuff and you could hardly move and the people who had taken the most stuff were the ones moaning about the trouble they had finding or choosing things.

i think less is more.

I think I'll have a lot of leave it in the boot stuff, just in case, that's unless of course I suddenly get organised and people stop using up my time for me. Just had tomorrow morning used up by other jobs, humph.

They told me the room wasn't that large, but we'll each have enough space, so I'm sure we'll manage, Karelyn. Mr Green

I'm not taking much though. Obviously the stuff for the classes but after that, I'll probably wander around nattering and nosing. Mr Green

My stuff is mainly the extras I said I'd bring like the big shot etc., and dies and folders. They are all in one bag and the stuff for sale in another, then I just have my tote and paper bag for me. I've only got small bits of each stuff, though probably more than patty's 'few' Mr Green
