Fabric Question Empty Fabric Question

Post by kt_dragonfly Tue 24 Jun 2014 - 12:41

A lady made fairy ear-wings at the fairy festival, I want to do something similar but pet wings. For the life of me I have no idea what the material is that she uses. I'm starting to think it might be a stiffened organza but not sure what I would use to do this??

Any ideas?

Organza yes, or you could also use Angelina Fibre and back that with interfacing too, or sandwich the interfacing.

Your other alternative would be to get wire, shape that and glue the fabric around the edges.

I was trying to avoid wires and such, just a stiff fabric that I could cut a wing shape out of :)

thanks

It looks like there's a kink in the top part of the wing KT, you'd need a wire edghe to make that if that's the case, could you use the wire edged ribbon?
Or place one piece of wire up the centre under the interfacing before fusing the sandwich together, that should do it.

Definitely iron-on interfacing, otherwise you'd get fraying. So you could use any fabric. You might be able to get the kink by using something like spray-on starch, possibly? It doesn't look like it's wired, so don't know how it was done.

There is no kink, it's just the reflection of the fabric.
