Storing green chillies?
Anyone know how to store green chillies? I have read various things on the net, have put some in the freezer as several people said, but wondered if anyone has grown and stored them successfully.
Re: Storing green chillies?
Well I have always popped them in the freezer Jo as when I tried to store some out in the shed they not only looked awful after a while, but didn't taste any good either!

I just keep mine in a dish on kitchen windowsill, turn them every now and then, they gradually turn redder and dry out at same time. Some do go off but kept us going most of last winter. Never thought of freezing them, but good idea to chop some and freeze. Not got so many this year though.

Re: Storing green chillies?
\thanks Di. I have loads, far too many for the freezer. Will try that too, they get hotter as they get redder don't they?
Re: Storing green chillies?
They do a bit, and they reckon the smaller red ones are hotter. Its the seeds and membrane that are the hot bits, so if you don't want too much heat discard them.

Re: Storing green chillies?
How about chopping finely and then freezing ice cube trays. Very quick when you want to use them then

Re: Storing green chillies?
THats a good idea Jan. I popped some on the windowsill and they have turned red, some are shrivelling up and are still green tho'. I am going to pop some in some olive oil in a small bottle and make chilli oil.
