Matt's New Friend
I love this picture I took today, it is of Matthew and a vulture at the Birds of Prey centre. The course was awesome but the vulture cracked me up the way it walked alongside Matthew who was the last one to feed it
Re: Matt's New Friend
Cute, sounds like it was a good time, and looks like Matt enjoyed himself.

Re: Matt's New Friend
If you look at the vulture's face he is blushing, they blush when they are excited and then their faces pale to white again when they calm down. They are ugly b*g**rs but they are absolutely fascinating creatures, they are on the critical list for extinction due to diclofenac, a drug I know a few of us take. In Africa people are valued for the size of cow herd they have, the more cows, the more important they are. Vultures will eat cows so someone discovered that if you put diclofenac into the cows food and then the vulture tried to eat the cow it would be dead within two days because of the diclofenac. The use of diclofenac has now been banned however the farmers have huge stockpiles of the stuff and the use of those wasn't banned so they are trying to capture as many vultures as possible and rear them in huge aviaries so that when all the diclofenac has run out there will still be vultures left. They also make a lovely purring noise and some of them love being tickled!

Nor did I Sue but seeing them up close they are quirky creatures, they knew the handlers so well, and each had a distinct personality, I am a vulture lover now
Re: Matt's New Friend

Very few people know they are under threat because they are ugly wotnots, not cute like pandas, but they are dying out quicker than the dodo did
Re: Matt's New Friend
I can't compete with a vulture but I did get to hold an owl today.
I forgot my camera so paid for a photo - have taken a photo of the photo
(I don't have a scanner) and will see if it has turned out.
