Autumn in my paradise

Sorry if I seem to be boastful, but these are the riots of colour to which I returned home from France. Enough to brighten the dullest day, eh?
They look as if they will bloom forever!

They are lovely at this time of the year Kim and I grow them most years as they are a late bloomer and need no attention. Thunbergia they are called (black eyed susan) and this variety is called something like "sunset" or something like that! Give them a go. I sow them in a flowerpot in about April, then transplant them when they are large enough and starting to climb. They need precious little support either, just a bit of thread or string.

It looks super mum, a reward for all your hard work here. I might even try those black eyed things myself.

Lovely, still so much colour - lot more than mine. Only thing really showing any in mine now are the geraniums and those little mauve flowers in the bottom left of your secon pic (name escapes me). I tried those black eyed susan years ago (not success) but may have another go, they are so dainty and pretty.

Den cleared most of the bedding plants out last weekend as they
had gone over so looking a little bit bare now.

we did that last weekend as well steph , all the brown has now gone at least . at the moment we still have a few petunias with a bit of colour that are in pots not baskets ,they went weeks ago .The fuschias are in full bloom , such rich purple and pink .some delicate pink very tall oriental like things which i cant remember the name of right now and my iceberg rose which generally has at least 1 bloom on it all yr round .

patty i will buy some of those seeds when its the right time i will have a go with it . will you try to remind me please .

Inspiring, I just took down my frazzled hanging baskets this week and my runner beans haven't come to anything, really must give more attention to the garden. Just got michlemas daisies in mine, which are a nice bright spot of colour, but what a lovely show you have, enjoyed looking, thanks for sharing.

A lot more colour than in mine, Patty - not that I have that many flowering plants at the best of time. Looks beautiful - and cool enough now for me to sit out in it, too!

COLOURISCIOUS.

Can't believe you still have so much colour. It still looks gorgeous. There's nothing left in mine at all. Although, I remember last October when I was there how lovely it looked then.

Mind you, I do tend to plant for summer instead of year round.

Well it is really amazing how the geraniums and fuschias are still blooming their little hearts out and I am still picking tomatoes too.

What a fantastic display, after the disappointment with the plants I put in this year they have finally all bushed out and are a great colourful display, but I would like to put in plants that last year after year but don't know which to do and don't want to spend to much money.

Billie - I am a bit late responding - sorry! You really need to buy perennials, which is what most of mine are, and hardy fuchsias as opposed to those that are for baskets and tubs and only last one season. I usually go round the nurseries in November and see what is in good shape and colour at that time of year and buy it!! It is a good time to plant perennials now because they still have a bit of warmth in the soil and it is damp (!!! try telling that tale in Cockermouth!) so will set good roots. There are also loads of small shrubs (as you know, my garden is tiny) that are full of colour. Spirea "Joseph'sCoat" is a good one, also Choysia ternata "Sundance" which is a glorious burst of golden yellow all through the winter. Some of the really good berried ones will only grow in acid soils though, so you need to get them locally so they are for the right soil. Nursery grown, if possible, as opposed to "garden centres" where they don't know hay from a bull's foot, so to speak, and will sell you anything. If you need any more help, just yell. I am going to go over entirely to perennials so I don't have too much work next year whilst I am doing so much travelling.
