Scalloped edge tool? Empty Scalloped edge tool?

Post by Guest Tue 4 Nov 2008 - 1:14

DIL to be and I are making Save the date cards, she mentioned a scalloped edge might be nice but apart from the scissors which I'm useless at cutting straight with, is there another accurate way or tool that you know of to get a scalloped edge please?

I have a plastic template and i draw round it and then cut with small scissors but its pretty laborious.

i too cant cut staight with fancy scissors - wondering if there is a knack to those.

othere is the carl cutter or rotatrim( same thing but different names ) but its expensive if you get the table top machine ( around £70 with blades ), the hand held thing is good but you have to rely on getting it straight every time

I have the Rotatrim, it came with a hand held rotary cutter, only used it once but I reckon that would probably do the trick.

Thanks for that the trimmers are quite impressive with the different blades, I may just go down this route with the cheaper trimmer that still takes the scallop blades.

the rotatrims are quite expensive to buy but they are such a fantastic investment . i have used mine now for about 4 years , maybe 5 and only changed the blade and the runner thing once each and thats only very recently too . i take a smaller trimmer to crops with me and i am always changing the blades it drives me crackers , they only seem to trim a few photos and they are blunt again

Thats handy to know Kim, I've used the same Avery for 6 years and although it isn't broke it's a bit slack and I'm going to have to invest soon. Are the blades easy to find?
You have to phone Avery for new blades etc. they send it out and pay later.

I really, really wanted a Rotatrim, but couldn't afford one at the time. I still can't, but you've got me wanting one again now. Very Happy

I'm lousy with scissors too so I bought a cheapy one with a deckle blade and it's never cut properly so I don't use it.

Now, before or after C for a Rotatrim???? Thinking

I have the carl trimer, its the version that has a slightly different layout on the base and only comes with 2 blades, Then I bought the extra blades (which fit perfectly) as and when I could. You dont get the storage under the trimmer for the blades but it is a cheaper outlay initially.

I have 4 different trimmers. The first I ever got was by Tiger Brand, my mum bought it for me for my birthday a few years ago, the cutting base needs turning periodically and I have one side left. The blade has lasted brilliantly, I've only been able to see about buying the blades from the site and I have to send a cheque with letter to get them, so not totally sure about diong it.

I have the small and medium X Cut Guillotines and they are brilliant, and then I have the rotatrim. Martin did buy me the x-cut v trimmer when mum bought me the tiger, but the trimmer blunted wihtin hours, I did cut card with it, but when I changed blades it never seemed to work properly so its in a corner !!!

When my Tiger one is no longer any good I've no idea what I'm going to do, prob just use the rotatrim more often for larger papers, but the other is s much smaller on the table Mr Green

I have a Rotatrim and it was one of the best buys I ever made.
With so many different cutting heads there is bound to be something
there to us.
