ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES LIST.... Empty ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES LIST....

Post by Lorraine Sun 7 Mar 2010 - 22:24

OK, girls. These are the things you will DEFINITELY need if you want to take part in everything. If not, then bring what you want. Mr Green

BOOKBINDING
Paper of your choice. A4 is good, but depends on what size you want your book. Bear in mind that an A4 sheet folded in half will give you 2 pages, so bring as many as you think you'll need for your preferred thickness. If you want to make a notebook, then ordinary printer/copy paper will be fine. If you think you might want to make an art journal or something that will take paint and embellies, then a sketch pad works well. The amount of paper sheets you bring MUST be divisible by 4.
Extra sheets of paper, 2 or 3 will do.
Sheet of cardstock - A4 will do
2 sheets of coloured paper for the endpapers.
Bone Folder
3 pieces of grossgrain or tape 2 - 3 inches long.
Piece of paper height of the pages and at least 2 inches wide.
Piece of card same size as above.
Thread - embroidery or bookbinding...a couple of yards at least.
Needle with eye large enough to take thread.
PVA or bookbinding glue.
Brush for applying PVA - bristle or foam. I prefer the foam brushes for this.
Pegs or Bulldog clips if you have any.
Bandage piece to be the height of your pages and about 2 inches wide.
Thin Ribbon but only if you want to add a bookmark.
Mount Board or thick card. 2 pieces a bit larger than your pages and an extra piece for your spine. I would suggest you DON'T cut these to the exact size before you've made your pages.
Patterned paper for your covers. 2 matching and 1 contrast 12 x 12 size is my recommendation, but whatever you want to use.
Embellishments of your choice for your front cover, or you can finish it at home.

DISTRESS INKS
INK PADS whatever Ranger distress ink pads you have.
Cut 'N' Dry foam, sponge daubers or makeup sponges.
Applicator tool if you have one. I don't use one.
Mini Water Spritzer.
Luggage Tags
Silicone Mat if you have one.
Rubber Stamps or Clear...whatever.
If you want to paint...
Plain white Tile
Waterbrush - Zig finetip is best or a paintbrush size 3 or 4.
Image stamped onto smooth watercolour paper (Hot Pressed) with Memento or Archival ink.

ALCOHOL INKS
Inks
Blending Solution
Applicator Tool
Felt Pads or cotton wool.
Glossy Cardstock
Acetate
Luggage Tags and/or plain card.

SWAPS
LO Photo Swap. A photo of your choice to give somebody else to scrap for you.
Scrapbooking supplies of your choice.
CARD KIT Make up a kit of your own choice, to include blank card, envi, papers, and embellishments.

CHALLENGES
BLACK AND WHITE You will need scrapbooking or card making materials to make a b/w piece with ONE COLOUR SPOT in the colour of your choice.
ALTERED TIN Materials of your choice and a tin (or gravy pot for example, if you don't have a tin) to alter. Paints, pens, papers, alpha's, glazes...anything goes.
STASH BAGGIE In a little bag, put 5 items (NO MORE). Ribbon, brads, chipboard shape, buttons, die cuts, blossoms...etc, etc. 3 brads or buttons will count as 1 item.

...............................................................

DON'T FORGET 19 TWINCHIES WITH YOUR PICTURE ON THEM. Mr Green

So, there you are. That is all the stuff you will need to bring to take part in the lessons, swaps and challenges. Apart from that, bring anything you want.
Copy and paste the list into a word document so you can work off it whilst getting your supplies together.

I don't know what button thread is, Karin but if you mean ordinary sewing thread, then no. Smile

It is sort of ordinary, but its much thicker so that its stronger for the buttons. Inherited in the sewing box from my Nan. If embroidery thread is the sort we use for cross stitch then its thicker than say two strands of that. But I think I've got that stuff anyway.

Embroidery thread is what we use for cross stitch and you will need the full six strands. Mind you, your thread may well be strong enough. Try giving it a good tug and see if it breaks easily. Mr Green

Thanks Lorraine - will print this out and tick them all off, to avoid asking you unnecessary questions!!!!!! (well, I say that NOW!) I am really looking forward to it all. And yes, button thread is strong enough as I have done all my book-binding (of sorts!) in the past with it. But Karin, if it was your nan's, give it a strong tug because over the years, unless it is waxed, it goes rotten.

OOh exciting,
Button thread looks very much like what you find when you pull a book apart, not that I have done that on purpose to see. It's extra strong thread. doesn't snap if you try to break it, has to be cut. Sounds like just the job, stronger than embroidery thread. Similar to what is used in jeans construction.
