We have regular grey squirrels Billie. I know they are pests
but they are cute.

Very cute, we have them in the garden. You're right Maria they can't co exist, greys carry a disease that can kill reds plus they are much larger so don't come off worst in a fight and get to the grub first. Squirrel flu has nearly wiped out all the ones at Formby which had loads just a few years back. We had a squirrel baby brought in by the cat and called the RSPCA and they said they would have to put her down as she was classed as vermin, he gave us hints on care and then marked on his notes that we hadn't been in when he called

Red ones are protected I think. The greys have overtaken them and I know there are
a few places dedicated to the reds. Reds are prettier.

REd squirrels are gorgeous, I am hoping to see some in Scotland. You have to go to special sanctuarys to see them here Maria. Or the Isle of White as the greys haven't learnt to swim yet!

Hehe - give them time. When my Mum and Dad lived in a bungalow, the
squirrels were so clever in stealing the bird nuts. It became a battle of wits
between my Dad and the squirrels and he took some amazing video footage
of the squirrels overcoming what you would think would be mission impossible.
Wonder what happened to it.

i love all squirrels but would adore it if the reds came into my garden...Squirrels are my mums favourite animal so they have special place in my heart.

When i am somewhere different and i see one or if one runs near me, i have to ring mum, as we call them her 'messengers' i have riung her before and said 'how are you' no mention of squirrel, and she said ' i was just going to ring you, so and so has had an accident.....or she has said 'i was just about to pick up the phone to say i felt poorly' i never ignore a squirrel, and i know in my heart that when mum passes on, it will make me cry to see one.

I would love to see a squirrel in my garden but no such luck. When we went to the Lake District we saw signs everwhere to say beware of the red squirrels but we never saw one.

If you go up to the lakes again try to get to Cockermouth, there is a pub there called the squirrel and they have a garden that is full of red Squirrels, they feed them but ask you not to give any of your meal to them as our food isn't good for them, I have spent many a good lunch in that pub. Reds are very shy and so its very special to see one if you are just out walking.
