I'll stick with a good old map and road signs.
Those SatNav's are dangerous things.

Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
they can be a bit funny ,but you have to get to understand their lingo and the way they explain things so its a good idea to practise , best way is to take it on routes you know and have them on and listen and look at how they describe the different things on the road . like keep right means stay in right hand lane not turn right , if they want you to turn right they will say so , and at some motorway junctions it can get a bit confusing . the good thing is though that if you do go wrong it will tell you to turn around or if you carry on and then it will work out another route to where you want to go , so if you miss the junction or turn off it will still get you to where youi want to go but from a different direction

Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
Well I for one couldn't possibly manage without my SatNav which I had from Kenny as my 70th birthday gift. He knew I couldn't read a map and he always navigated because he didn't drive. One funny bit with it - and I hasten to add it has NEVER led me wrong - was that Mia and Tim told me never to leave it in the car but take it off and take it in wherever I was going. Stopped at South Mimms on a long journey for a wee, remembered to take the SatNav in with me and whilst I was sitting on the loo "Tallulah" (her name) said in a very loud voice "Turn around where possible" .... much to the amusement of all the other ladies in there!!! Well, Tim and Mia said take it out, they didn't say turn it off.

Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
Oh Patty, so funny.
I know what she means with keep right, but I guess at the time when it was a dirt track we were having to avoid Mum and I thought it was funny.
Well last night after I'd put post code in and looked at step by step inst 'she' was going to take me a 5 mile out of the way route, so I decided to do my own bits and see what 'she' did. Kept saying re-calculate.....but on the last part of the journey when there aren't any other possible changes it was bang on. It would have been anyway, only I didn't really want to go through town and go the very long way round.
Our old one though couldn't be updated so when the new A1 link was built near my parents and I had to travel it to get to the harrogate show it kept showing me as being in the middle of a field. Thankfully it was at a point that I actually knew where I was.
I will still be looking at the map before then, but as Kim says it will re-calc and help if you do get lost and send you back....which is when I would be happy with it

I'm using a map. I like maps. Actually I'm a bit sad like that; I really like maps . I like orienteering too!
I will be using a map, hopefully assisted by my navigator Mrs Cajun!

Don't worry; I have to see a map to understand it anyway, no use giving me verbal instructions. I'll write down what you need to tell me, it'll be dead simple; I do have a natural sense of direction too, that always helps!
Two months to go!!!!

Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
Thanks for letting me know about the cheque, Kim, although I wouldn't have worried as I never expect private cheques to be banked as quickly as ones to businesses.
Loved Patty's story.

Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
Brilliant Patty LOL
I like to look at a map and write out my route, so I can get an idea of where I should be, then I set up the satnav and use that too.
I like loooking at maps too, quite happily look through an atlas, particularly a world one, that's a good thing for my Quirks CJ.

Love your story Patty
Me and Kim have a bit of a problem when we go anywhere cos neither of us have any sense of direction!! It doesn't help that we chatter non stop too!! Jim and Steve never expect us to get home without getting lost at some point.

Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
Used Tom's satnav when we were on holiday during the summer, the only thing I didn't like about it was the warning siren for the speed cameras, didn't half make me jump when first heard it, fortunately Tom was driving.
Got some info about a course at work today and was going to book myself onto it but kept thinking about the date and was only when I looked in my diary remembered I'll be going to Coventry so had to give it a miss, what a shame!

Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
PMSL Patty, love it. Our old one did once tell us' do a U turn when possible' as we were driving along the A1, doh! I like maps too, but I like the way the sat nav reroutes you if your lost and its quite comforting in a way, lol.
Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
When my eldest son took me to Ikea, a couple of times he said,
I'm not going the way the satnav says - I know a quicker route !!!
I thought, what's the point of having one then ??

Re: RETREAT CHATTER..
Well I just rang the hotel as I needed to update my credit card, really didn't want to turn up and be told that as my card had expired I no longer had a room
Turns out the slight difference in price that I am paying is because I booked a couple of weeks after you all. The prices change so much, and on a day by day basis, she said they are completely different now. Good job we not booking the rooms this week then. Wonder who gets the really cheap rooms, they must book them a year in advance
