Re: Aidan.
Well, the poor little soul has bronchilitus now. Mia ended up in hospital with this, so let's just hope Aidan doesn't get any worse. He just doesn't seem to be getting a break, bless him.
He was at the docs a week ago with a cough but there was nothing they could do. I said to Nic the other day, I wasn't happy with the sound of it. Today, I said the same and both Nic and Jonny said they weren't happy either, so Nic got on the phone and demanded to see a doctor.
As it's a virus, there is still nothing they can give him, so Nic has some nasal drops and vapour rub to help keep his tubes clear. Fingers crossed.

Oh no, hope he is better for tomorrow . Molly had bronchiolitis at six months, it's quite scary when they're so little.

How is Aidan doing now Lou? I love the last pics you posted of him. Bless him he has beautiful blue eyes.
Have you heard anymore about the surgeries?

Re: Aidan.
Aidan is at Queen's on Wednesday for his pre-op tests and we'll find out the date of his first surgery.
At the moment, they're trying to wean him off his dummy which is no easy task with a 2 month old. I've just taken him and Mia home and they're both screaming. The hospital want Aidan off his dummy before he goes in as he can not have it once he's had surgery.
He's doing well though. He's nearly 11lb now and feeding well.

Re: Aidan.
Aw bless him, difficult to wean off things like that at this age I imagine. Thankfully didn't have to worry about that. Maybe they could try some sleep training with him, helps them to fall asleep without any comforters. Will see if I can find the word doc and email you it. A friend has just used it and its a case of perseverance. And you don't leave them to cry at this age.

Re: Aidan.
You would of thought the hospital would of explained the dummy problem to Nic when he was born, would of been so much easier for her if she knew not to give him one from the start.
They are one of my pet hates, always seem so unhygienic and I don't like seeing children with them stuck in their mouths. My two never had them.
Good to hear he is gaining weight nicely.

Re: Aidan.
Awww love him. All my kids had dummies, but when they were old enough they gave them to santa in return for pressies hehe (well apart from kira's, when she was 17mths she kept throwing it on the floor in temper, when we were up my bil's house and the floor was covered in husky dog hairs, ,so after 4 times washing it, i threw it out the window onto the road lol.
A bit harder with little ones though eh lou? they don't understand.
I hope he will be ok.

Aidan's first surgery is booked for 4th May.
His pre-op tests today went fine. He's perfect in every other way.

Re: Aidan.
Aidan has failed his hearing test. He can't hear quiet things, but hopefully that can be sorted. He has glue ear, which is common in clefts (and not in clefts too) so if he doesn't grow out of it, then he will have grommets. For now though, there's nothing to be done, so his speech will be affected. There is a sensory hearing specialist going to see him tomorrow and they think a speech therapist will probably be needed unless his ears clear.
It will be very strange looking at him after his surgery, he's going to look like a different child and we know we are all going to miss this little face grinning at us. The consultant said it can actually be quite traumatic for some parents as they feel like they've lost 'their' child. Emotions are funny things aren't they?
Anyway, this is Aidan today and this will probably be the last time you will see him looking like this.

Re: Aidan.
I can't believe how much he has grown! My friends in Aylesbury said exactly the same thing after their little girl had her surgery; it took more adjusting to than her having the cleft in the first place.
Fingers crossed that his hearing is okay. Rachel failed several hearing tests when she was little (she was pre-term, hatched at 35 weeks), but whatever it was sorted itself out.

Re: Aidan.
He is a lovely little man, nice to see him without the dummy.
Yes you're right about the old emotions, especially where little 'uns are concerned. He is looking so much more grown up, those long fingers and sitting up, the speech therapists will be great, it's good that they're in this early for him, I get the feeling that this little fella is going to do alright for himself and show everyne what he's made of.
I'm sure he won't look like a completely different child it's just the lip shape that will change, those eyes certainly won't and they are what strikes you as you look at him. Just think how quickly you got used to him when he was born, after a week with hime back from surgery you'll be used to the changes, and they do change quickly when they're little anyway.
There's a cheeky monkey in the making here. Not just you Lorraine, Aiden too.

Re: Aidan.
I didn't see this before so didn't realise Aidan was having surgery. I wish him luck. He has gorgeous eyes like Mia, although a different colour.
William failed his hearing tests when a baby and they thought he would be like BOb, he isn't and his ears are fine, so that may improve with age. Who knowa, whatever the case it sounds like Nic is getting a lot of support from the relevant departments.

Hope it all goes well - try not to worry, and whatever he looks like he is still the same inside and the same character (and, alas, still a baby).
